The Whiskey Sour cocktail is a classic drink with a whiskey base. An unusual twist with this drink is the optional dash of egg white, however, can be substituted for pineapple juice if you do not like or cannot have eggs. This drink is served either in a cocktail glass or if served “on the rocks”, then an old fashioned glass should be used instead. Traditionally a whiskey sour is garnished with half a slice of orange and a cocktail cherry.

What you need to make the Whiskey Sour

For the drink
  • 45 ml Bourbon whiskey
  • 30 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 15 ml gomme syrup
  • Dash egg white (optional)
  • Ice cubes
For the garnish
  • Cocktail cherry
  • Half orange slice

How to make

  1. Fill the shaker with ice cubes and add the whiskey, lemon juice, gomme syrup (and optionally a dash of egg white).
  2. Shake well and strain the drink into a cocktail glass. If serving “on the rocks” (over ice) then use an old fashioned glass.
  3. Add the orange slice and cocktail cherry for the garnish.
